(VIDEO: Khurram Nasir, M.D., director of research for Baptist Health Medical Group, explains the historic importance of the Miami Heart Study.)

When Khurram Nasir, M.D., director of research for Baptist Health Medical Group, speaks about the Miami Heart Study, he can’t help but get excited. Dr. Nasir says the study has the potential to be one that “redifines the future of cardiovascular disease practices.” He is enthusiastic about recruiting participants needed for the study. He cites a “deep rooted desire to make a difference” as one of the top reasons to join.

Baptist Health is recruiting 4,000 men and women in South Florida to join the study. To take part, you must be between 40 and 65 years of age, free of known cardiovascular disease or symptoms of heart disease, and willing to commit to follow-up surveys over the next five years. Participation in the study is completely voluntary.

If chosen, participants will complete a series of health surveys, undergo noninvasive cardiovascular and respiratory exams and provide blood samples. The initial testing takes place at West Kendall Baptist Hospital. There is no charge to be part of the study, which is collaborative effort with Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute.
