(VIDEO: Nearly 20,000 “warriors in pink” came out for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Miami/Fort Lauderdale.)

This weekend marked the 20th anniversary of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Miami/Fort Lauderdale. The 5k race brought thousands of participants to Bayfront Park in Downtown Miami. The goal of the race is to raise funds for breast cancer research. According to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, last year’s race raised nearly $800,000 that went to 27 local hospitals, clinics, community groups and non-profits.

For many, the emotional highlight of the day came pre-race, when more than 1,200 breast cancer survivors were honored with a procession and recognition of their years of survivorship, which they marked with pink roses.

Baptist Health Breast Center at Miami Cancer Institute is a sponsor of the event, which also seeks to raise awareness for breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment.

The Baptist Health South Florida News Team was there to wrap up an emotional morning. Watch it now.
