The 2017 Global Leadership Summit is a wrap. This year’s attendees are returning to work with what many are calling inspirational and actionable leadership tools.

Under the theme “Everyone Has Influence,” the Willow Creek Community Church simulcast the event from Illinois to 600 locations around the world, reaching more than 400,000 people. Baptist Health South Florida sponsored the local broadcast of the Global Leadership Summit at Christ Journey Church in Coral Gables, Christ Journey Church in Kendall and at Island Community Church in Islamorada.

Some of this year’s key takeaways came from speakers like Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook, who spoke about the potential of recognizing leadership traits in young women. “Next time you see a little girl called ‘bossy’… No, that little girl has executive leadership skills,” Ms. Sandberg said.

Marcus Lemonis, star of CNBC’s The Profit, gave an emotional account of his life and how it has affected his business sense. “The most important thing for me in life is being vulnerable and transparent,” Mr. Lemonis said. The Miami native added, “When you can unlock someone’s heart and build their trust, you can get anywhere.”

The heart of the Global Leadership Summit is servant leadership – the cultivation of a skilled humility that harnesses excellence in the service of the greater good, according to Rev. Guillermo Escalona, director of Pastoral Care at Miami Cancer Institute, who coordinates Baptist Health’s support of the Summit locally.

“The Summit offers all of us an opportunity to be equipped and inspired by some of the very best in their fields, so that we may positively impact everyone and everything in our circles of influence while realizing the value of integrating all of our resources – spiritual, intellectual, social, emotional and material – for self-care and building the beloved community until true success is affirmed,” said Rev. Escalona.

The 2018 Global Leadership Summit will be held August 8-9.
