Miami Children’s Museum held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to welcome its newest permanent exhibit gallery, the Baptist Children’s Hospital Health & Wellness Center. With the goal of educating visitors both young and old on the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle, the 2,000-square-foot space features more than a dozen activities focusing on preventive health, nutrition and wellness.

“Baptist Children’s Hospital is honored to be a partner with Miami Children’s Museum in promoting healthy lifestyles for everyone in the community and especially our future generations,” said Randy Lee, chief operating officer, Baptist Hospital of Miami and vice president, Baptist Children’s Hospital. “We are passionate about creating a healthier community, one child at a time”, he added.

Children can challenge themselves with several virtual sports, test their agility on an obstacle course and even try on the equipment used by South Florida’s professional sports teams in the “Gear Up” exhibit. In the “Food is Fuel” display, visitors are taught the importance of exercise and a diet that includes vegetables, fruits and whole grains.

“We need to develop young bodies as well as young minds, so they grow into strong and healthy individuals,” states Deborah Spiegelman, chief executive officer/executive director of Miami Children’s Museum. “This new gallery is an important step in ensuring future generations develop a healthy lifestyle at a young age.”
