If you are looking for a little motivation to lose weight or to improve your overall health, a personal fitness tracker may help you reach your goal.

These wearable gadgets have increased in popularity in recent years and are showing no signs of slowing down. They often work together with smartphone apps and websites to help you view your activity, set health goals, share your achievements with friends, and for most people, provide extra motivation to get off the couch.

The high-tech fitness trackers measure everything from overall movement and exercise to the calories you burn and even sleep patterns. They come in many different styles to fit your preference. Several popular fitness trackers look like bracelets and a few double as watches.

There are others that are clip-on style and are small enough to tuck into your pocket. With so many styles to choose from, make sure to do your homework before you buy.

Shopping Tips
  • Skip the fitness trackers  with tools you will never use.
  • Think about what you want to track and the comfort level of the device.
  • Consider how discrete or flashy you want the device on your wrist to be.
  • Make sure the tracker you choose will sync with your  other device(s).
  • Popular brands on the market:
  • Garmin Vivofit.
  • Flex.
  • Misfit Shine.
  • Fitbit One.
  • Jawbone UP.
  • Withings Pulse.
  • Whether your health goals are small or you’re hoping for a full fitness transformation, using a personal fitness tracking device will make you more mindful of your activity level.
