Ever wonder how plants deal with global warming? Plants, just like us, are affected by global warming. Plants have been able to use different characteristics and mechanisms to regulate their leaf temperature. During this workshop, we will help scientists from the University of Miami conduct a series of experiments to understand how size, shape, and color affect leaf temperature. To register, click here.
Mangrove Detectives

Be a Mangrove Detective for a day! During this workshop, students will help visiting scientist, Dr. Ryann Rossi collect data to identify environmental impacts on mangrove populations.
The Million Orchid Project

Guest speaker: Fairchild Orchid Biologist, Dr. Jason Downing
Join us as we learn about Fairchild’s Million Orchid Project. Students will visit our micropropagation lab, where you will learn to grow orchid seedling and learn about the unique biology of an orchid. They will help “deflask” orchids and prepare them to be planted into the trees.
Connect to Protect

Did you know that Florida has one of the most endangered ecosystems? This homeschool program will introduce you to Florida’s Pine Rocklands. Students will learn how Fairchild works to protect and reestablish these areas through our Connect to Protect program and how you can help too.
Preserving for the Future: A Trip to Fairchild’s Herbarium

Did you know botanist build their own time capsules? Since the 15th century, botanists have been preserving samples of plants and keeping them in libraries called a herbarium. This workshop takes place at Fairchild’s herbarium that houses thousands of specimens collected around the world. During this workshop, you will learn why saving collections is important and then create your own herbarium press. To register, click here.
