Watch Now: Navigating the Supermarket for Fruits and Veggies
You’ve probably heard this bit of wisdom: Diet plays a major role in your overall health and well-being. And when it comes to good health, your shopping cart can deliver nutrition, taste and value, according to registered dietitians at Baptist Health.
“Eat a variety of colorful fruits and veggies every day,” says Lucette Talamas, registered dietitian with Community Health at Baptist Health. “Each color of produce provides a different mix of nutrients to help support health in different ways.”
ChooseMyPlate.gov, a federal website designed to provide nutritional tip, recommends that you fill at least half of your plate with fruits and vegetables.
If you want to hit that target, here’s a supermarket shortcut. To make it easier to fill half your plate with fruits and veggies, fill half of your shopping cart with a variety of fruits and veggies, Ms. Talamas says.”Remember all forms count, from fresh to frozen to canned. Be sure to make the best nutritious choices for canned and frozen options by reading the nutrition labels.”
To lead the way, she recently went shopping at Norman Brothers Produce, one of the oldest family-owned businesses in South Florida.
Watch now to see how she filled her cart.
