Watch Now: Komen Race For the Cure
It was a sea of pink, more than 30,000 people descending on Bayfront Park for the 19th annual Komen Race for the Cure to raise money for breast cancer research. Breast cancer survivors, many with a single pink rose in their hand, participated in a procession that paid tribute to their resiliency. Families, friends and supporters of all ages navigated the five kilometer course along Biscayne Boulevard to pledge unity with those who have battled the disease.
Since 1995, Susan G. Komen Miami/Ft. Lauderdale has raised millions of dollars to fund the fight against breast cancer through the Komen Race for the Cure. The event, part of the largest series of fitness walks in the world, is designed to promote positive awareness, education and early detection of breast cancer.
With 1200 walkers committed to finding a cure, the Baptist Health Breast Center was a proud partner of the event, raising 85-thousand dollars for the Susan G. Komen Organization. With an early detection survival rate of 89 percent, digital mammography is still the best screening tool for breast cancer, according to the American Cancer Society.
