Sobering Statistics: Alcohol Use Disorder in the U.S.
David Vittoria, assistant vice president of the Addiction Treatment & Recovery Center at South Miami Hospital, shares his perspective on a recently published study on alcohol use disorder (AUD) in the United States.
America has a drinking problem. It’s serious – affecting nearly a third of all Americans, with millions of men and women showing evidence of a serious alcohol-related problem at some point in their lives. Also concerning is that only 20% of those that identified their alcohol problem have actually sought help for it.
These sobering statistics are found in a study just published in the journal JAMA Psychiatry. It’s the first comprehensive look at the widespread problem of Alcohol Use Disorder, as newly defined by the American Psychiatric Association.
If you think you or someone you love might have a problem with alcohol, it’s okay to seek help. Find hope at the Addiction Treatment & Recovery Center; call 800-YES-HOPE to schedule your private, complimentary consultation.
