Dwyane Wade’s announcement of his return for a 16th and final season has the Miami HEAT fired up heading into the 2018 training camp.

Harlan Selesnick, M.D., orthopedic surgeon at Miami Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Institute and Miami HEAT team physician, highlighted the discipline and dedication that players, both young and veteran, have in preparing their bodies for the grueling season. “We assess their risk for injury, and many of them work on their conditioning, flexibility and strength in the off-season,” said Dr. Selesnick, the longest tenured team physician in the National Basketball Association.

Joining Dr. Selesnick at the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce Women’s Business Network Luncheon were HEAT stars Udonis Haslem, Goran Dragic and Rodney McGruder, who spoke about the culture of preparation that prevails within the HEAT organization. They all agreed that proper conditioning, nutrition and rest are essential for longevity in the league.

Miami Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Institute, part of Baptist Health South Florida, and the Miami HEAT,  just broke ground on The Miami HEAT Sports Medicine Center at Miami Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Institute, which will house all of the Institute’s orthopedic specialties, including a state-of-the-art ambulatory surgery center on the top floor adjacent to Doctors Hospital in Coral Gables.
