Miami Dolphins Surprise 11-Year-Old Cancer Patient (Video)
Eleven-year-old Nicholas Dewan received the surprise of his life when the Miami Dolphins visited him at the office of Doured Daghistani, M.D. at Baptist Children’s Hospital.
Representatives from the Dolphins organization learned from one of Nicholas’ fifth-grade teachers that he had to miss the Fins Frenzy Pep Rally at his school because he would be preparing for his cancer treatment. It was at that point that the Dolphins knew they had to bring the pep rally to Nicholas.
Former Miami Dolphins players Lousaka Polite, Troy Drayton and Twan Russell were on site to help with the surprise and were joined by members of the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders and the Dolphins mascot, TD. They presented Nicholas with his own customized jersey and a football signed by current Miami Dolphins Wide Receiver, Jarvis Landry.
Nicholas’ parents were just as shocked about the surprise. “I was beyond shocked … this is for my child, this is great!” said Nicholas’ father, Manoj (Sonny) Dewan. Nicholas’ mother, Carmen Dewan, was also emotional about the visit and had this to say on her Facebook account; “They left me speechless and emotional to see such great love poured out.”
During the visit to Baptist Children’s Hospital, the Miami Dolphins, Nicholas and his family, as well as other children receiving treatment, posed for pictures, shared hugs and high fives and even played some games. This day was about bringing a smile to Nicholas’ face and helping him through a difficult time. Twan Russell said this made his day.
“A lot of times you think you are going to bless people at a hospital,” Russell said. “Nine times out of ten the people in the hospital bless you and that’s what it’s about today, It’s about sharing love”.
The Baptist Health News Team was there to capture Nicholas’ surprise. Watch the video now to see the smile brought to Nicholas’ face.
