Fireworks Safety Tips (With Infographic)
New Year’s Eve may not generate as many fireworks gatherings for the family as the Fourth of July does, but you need to keep the same safety safeguards in mind.
As with the Fourth, the safest thing to do for New Year’s Eve is to leave the fireworks show to the pros. If you’re going to shoot off your own fireworks, here are some important tips to follow:
- Never let children handle fireworks, and make sure they are supervised the entire time.
- Alcohol and fireworks don’t mix. Don’t handle any fireworks if you’ve been drinking.
- Keep everyone at a safe distance.
- Obey the laws in your community regarding types of fireworks and other restrictions.
- Keep your surroundings in mind and only use fireworks outside where there are no overhead obstructions.
- Make sure to stay clear of dry grass and vehicles.
- Be ready in case of a mishap — keep a bucket of water or a hose ready.
