Watch Now: 2016 Miami Marathon and Half Marathon
Participants in the 14th Annual Miami Marathon and Half Marathon woke up to clear skies and cold temperatures, (by South Florida standards), conditions some considered ideal for running a personal best. Nearly 24,000 registered for the race, but according to some reports, as many as three-thousand out-of-town participants were forced to stay home because of the blizzard that hit the east coast over the last couple of days.
Runners and walkers took part in a race weekend that included the Health and Fitness Expo at Mana Wynwood, Tropical 5K, half marathon, marathon and the Kids Run Miami program.
Thomas San Giovanni, M.D., an orthopedic surgeon with Miami Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Institute and co-medical director of the race, was on hand to manage a team of doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals in the Baptist Health South Florida medical tent located near the finish line at Bayfront Park.
Thinh Tran, M.D., MBA, corporate vice president and chief medical and quality officer for Baptist Health South Florida and co-medical director of the race, got to experience the course first hand, by participating in the half marathon.
Volunteers also handed out fresh pineapple slices at the Baptist Health South Florida stations located at miles 11, 15 and 22 along the course.
Baptist Health South Florida is the official medical provider for the race and is also the sponsor of the Athletes With A Disability Division, which includes many wheelchair and hand bike participants.
The Baptist Health South Florida News Team put together a video tribute to all who participated in the race. Watch it Now!
