Health and nutrition were served on a platter when the South Miami Green Family Foundation Neighborhood HELP program made a house call to several families in the South Miami community.

The culinary team included Chef Richard Plasencia, executive chef at South Miami Hospital, and several representatives from Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine at Florida International University (FIU), South Miami Hospital and Baptist Health South Florida.

The community outreach program is a joint venture between Baptist Health South Florida and the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine at FIU to help the South Miami community get improved access to healthcare.

The Neighborhood HELP program now includes 100 families, who work with either a health outreach worker or a medical student team to assess their health and chart a course of action to set goals to improve their overall health.  Additionally, the families have access to a Mobile Health Center, which provides primary health services.

The Baptist Health South Florida News team was there for the recent cooking and nutrition demonstration. Watch now.
