Dr. Dan Ruiz HeadshotMIAMI, FL – October 1, 2018 — Surgeon Dan Ruiz, M.D., FACS, has joined Baptist Health Medical Group, a network of primary care doctors and specialists who provide high-quality medical care to patients of all ages. Dr. Ruiz treats patients with a broad range of conditions that commonly require surgery. He performs elective surgery, surgical critical care and trauma treatment. He is highly proficient in a wide range of laparoscopic and advanced laparoscopic surgical procedures. He also has special training and expertise in the medical and surgical treatment of conditions affecting the lower digestive tract, including the colon, rectum and anus. Dr. Ruiz is affiliated with Baptist Hospital, Homestead Hospital and Mariners Hospital. His primary office location is 975 Baptist Way, Suite 201, in Homestead, and his secondary location is 91550 Overseas Highway, Suite 214, in Tavernier, FL.

Dr. Ruiz received his medical degree from Santa Casa De Misericordia de Sao Paulo in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He completed a general surgery residency at New York Hospital Queens, Weil Cornell Medical School, in Flushing, N.Y. His postdoctoral training includes clinical and research fellowships in colorectal surgery at Sirio Libanes Hospital in Sao Paulo, Brazil, St Mark’s Hospital in London, United Kingdom, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, N.Y. and Cleveland Clinic in Weston, FL. Dr. Ruiz is certified by the American Board of Surgery.

Dr. Ruiz comes to Baptist Health from HCA East Florida in Palm Beach. He serves as an associate professor of surgery at Florida International University, Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. In addition to being a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Ruiz is a member of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed research publications on surgical techniques and published more than 40 abstracts in medical journals and several book chapters. He also has given nearly 60 oral and poster presentations at national and international surgical conferences.
