Fishermen’s Community Hospital earns ACR Accreditation

ACR Accreditation SealMarathon, FL – October 15, 2019 – Fishermen’s Community Hospital has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in computed tomography (CT) as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR). CT scanning, sometimes called CAT scanning, is a noninvasive medical test that helps physicians diagnose and tailor treatments for various medical conditions.

“We are honored to receive this accreditation,” said JC Holmes, imaging services director at Fishermen’s Community Hospital. “Obtaining this recognition demonstrates our commitment to provide the safest and highest quality exams possible. It is something our team and community should be very proud of.”

The ACR Gold Seal of Accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Parameters and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by Board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs are assessed.

The findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the facility with a comprehensive report that can be used for continuous practice improvement.

West Kendall Baptist Hospital achieves Magnet® Recognition again

Recognition for the second time reinforces a commitment to nursing excellence

MIAMI— October 9, 2019 — West Kendall Baptist Hospital, part of Baptist Health South Florida, attained Magnet recognition again, a testament to its continued dedication to high-quality nursing practice. The American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Magnet Recognition Program ® distinguishes health care organizations that meet rigorous standards for nursing excellence. This credential is the highest national honor for professional nursing practice.

Receiving Magnet recognition for the second time is a great achievement for West Kendall Baptist Hospital, as it continues to proudly belong to the select community of Magnet-recognized organizations.

“Magnet recognition is a tremendous honor and reflects our commitment to delivering the highest quality of care to this community,” said Javier Hernandez-Lichtl, Chief Executive Officer at West Kendall Baptist Hospital. “Our repeated achievement of this credential underscores the foundation of excellence and values that drive our entire staff to strive harder each day to meet the health care needs of our patients.”

Research demonstrates that Magnet recognition provides specific benefits to health care organizations and their communities, such as:

  • Higher patient satisfaction with nurse communication, availability of help and receipt of discharge information.
  • Lower risk of 30-day mortality and lower failure to rescue rates.
  • Higher job satisfaction among nurses.
  • Lower nurse reports of intentions to leave their positions.

To achieve Magnet recognition, organizations must pass a rigorous and lengthy process that demands widespread participation from leadership and staff. This process includes an electronic application, written patient care documentation, an on-site visit, and a review by the Commission on Magnet Recognition.

“We’re a better organization today because of the Magnet recognition we achieved,” said Sandra McLean, MSHA, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer at West Kendall Baptist Hospital. “Magnet recognition raised the bar for patient care and inspired every member of our team to achieve excellence every day. It is this commitment to providing our community with high-quality care that helped us become a Magnet-recognized organization, and it’s why we continue to pursue and maintain Magnet recognition.”
