Project to provide health and wellness activities for the community including Greenmonkey® Yoga in the Park

MIAMI, FL – March 30, 2017 – Baptist Health South Florida announced today a partnership with the Ludlam Trail. The two organizations have teamed up to increase access to exercise for the surrounding neighborhoods.

This Saturday, marks the first of a series of complimentary health and wellness activities for the community. On April 1st from 9am-10am all are welcome to join Greenmonkey® Yoga in the Park at A.D. Barnes Park.

Activities scheduled thus far include:
• Every Saturday (starting on 4/1/17) from 9am -10am at A.D. Barnes Park – Greenmonkey® Yoga in the Park powered by Baptist Health
• Every Wednesday (starting on 4/5/17) from 6pm -7pm at William H. Kerdyk Jr. Park – Greenmonkey® Yoga in the Park powered by Baptist Health

Bernie Fernandez, Chief of Baptist Health Medical Group, to Assist President’s Commission on White House Fellowships

Baptist Health Opens Express Care in Key Biscayne

Key Biscayne, Fla. – March 20, 2017 – Adults and children with minor illnesses and injuries now have a faster, lower-cost option when needing medical care at the new Baptist Health Express Care, located at 240 Crandon Boulevard.

The Baptist Health Express Care is open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and walk-ins are welcome – no appointment is necessary. Prices of services are provided before treatment. Dr. Cindy Mitch-Gomez and Dr. Paul Gipps Join Baptist Health Primary Care Pinecrest Office

MIAMI, FL – March 14, 2017 — Baptist Health Primary Care is pleased to announce the addition of two physicians to its new Pinecrest office, located at 13101 South Dixie Hwy., Suite 400. Family medicine physicians Cindy Mitch-Gomez, M.D., and geriatric physician Paul Gipps, M.D., have joined the experts at Baptist Health Medical Group, an organization of more than 180 physicians, part of Baptist Health South Florida.

Both physicians specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of health issues, including simple and complex health conditions, chronic disease management, minor emergencies, urgent care and the coordination of specialty care. She is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Miami Cancer Institute Names Robert Udelsman, M.D., Lead Physician of Endocrine Neoplasia

MIAMI, FL – March 6, 2017 – Robert Udelsman, M.D., MBA, FACS, FACE, has joined the growing team of cancer care specialists at Miami Cancer Institute at Baptist Health South Florida as chief of endocrine surgery and director of the Endocrine Neoplasia Institute.

Dr. Udelsman comes to Miami Cancer Institute from Yale University School of Medicine, where he served as surgeon-in-chief at Yale-New Haven Hospital since 2001. Renowned for his innovative and highly successful surgical approach to performing thyroid and parathyroid operations, he has dedicated much of his career to the development of minimally invasive endocrine procedures, performing more than 6,000 thyroid and 2,500 parathyroid procedures to date. He was one of the first in the world to perform minimally invasive parathyroidectomy and the first in the U.S. to perform thyroid and parathyroidectomies via the mouth, avoiding visible scarring. He also was an early adopter of laparoscopic adrenalectomy.

Dr. Udelsman is board-certified in surgery. He completed his medical training at George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences and his surgical residency and chief residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. He also completed three fellowships: surgical oncology at the National Cancer Institute; endocrinology at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development; and gastrointestinal surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute Completes $120 Million Expansion Project

Multidisciplinary cardiovascular care facility offers world’s most advanced Cath Lab,
including the Philips Azurion Image Guided Therapy System

MIAMI, FL – March 2, 2017 — Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute has completed its $120 million expansion project on the Baptist Hospital campus. The state-of-the-art facility includes additional space and cutting-edge technology, facilitating the creation of several new, specialized programs bringing together multidisciplinary teams of specialists to treat the cardiovascular system as a single entity.

The expansion added 60,000 square feet of new space and included 40,000 square feet of renovations, nearly doubling the size of the Institute to 150,000 square feet in order to accommodate a growing number of patients and procedures. Since it was founded in 1987, Institute physicians have pioneered less-invasive techniques to treat aneurysms, stroke and heart disease, and have been part of many groundbreaking research trials.

For 30 years, Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute has been an integral innovation partner for Philips, a world leader in healthcare technologies, providing valuable clinical insights that have led to the development of industry-leading solutions such as the recently announced Philips Azurion Image Guided Therapy (IGT) system. The expansion includes a state-of-the-art Cath lab, representing the first North American installation of Azurion. The system is designed to anticipate what clinicians need, when they need it, to make procedures flow intuitively and support a superior patient experience.

One of the first elements of the three-year project was the expansion of Baptist Hospital’s Surgery Center, which now includes six large operating rooms dedicated to neuroscience, cardiac, vascular and robotic surgery. The Institute also added four new advanced endovascular suites with enlarged gallery viewing areas for enhanced teaching and learning opportunities. “This is the centerpiece of the expansion, the Center for Advanced Endovascular Therapies,” Dr. Katzen explained. “We wanted to create an environment in which we could do any type of predominantly image-guided procedure, where physicians of different disciplines could work together to create unique solutions for patients’ problems.”

In designing interventional suites of the future, two of the new endovascular suites have glass walls and a video system that allow people to sit in a theater-style chair outside of the suite and control what they are watching using an iPad. Viewers from different disciplines or in training each can have their own unique user interface that allows them to pick and choose which parts of the procedure they want to watch, all with communication with the suites.

Additionally, the Institute makeover created the National Center for Aneurysm Therapy — the first in the world — a Center for Structural Heart Therapy, Center for Critical Limb Ischemia and an Advanced Arrhythmia Therapy Center. It is here where physicians are doing research to discover more cardiovascular disease breakthroughs.

American Association of Critical-Care Nurses Recognizes the NICU at Baptist Children’s Hospital with Gold Beacon Award for Excellence

National three-year award with gold, silver, bronze designations marks a significant milestone on the path to exceptional patient care and achieving a healthy work environment

Miami, FL – February 28, 2017 – The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN), Aliso Viejo, Calif., recently conferred a gold-level Beacon Award for Excellence on the George Batchelor and Gloria Vasta Lewis Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Baptist Children’s Hospital.

The Beacon Award for Excellence is a distinct accomplishment on the path to exceptional patient care and healthy work environments. It recognizes unit caregivers who successfully improve patient outcomes and align practices with AACN’s six Healthy Work Environment Standards. Baptist Health Medical Group Continues to Grow

Gabriel Solti Grasz, M.D., Pascual De Santis, M.D., and Barry Mills, M.D., have joined the Medical Group

MIAMI, FL – February 6, 2017 — Baptist Health Medical Group has added several specialists and primary care physicians to its team. Primary care physician Gabriel Solti Grasz, M.D., endocrinologist Pascual De Santis, M.D., and gastroenterologist Barry Mills, M.D., have joined the Medical Group, an organization of more than 180 physicians in multiple specialties integrated within Baptist Health South Florida.

Dr. Solti Grasz will be the first primary care physician to see patients in the new Baptist Health Primary Care office at Doral, located at 9915 NW 41 St., Suite 230. He will focus on wellness and prevention and provide the community with continuity of care — an essential component of safe, effective and high-quality medical care. Patients visiting the primary care office will experience minimal wait times, same-day appointments and easy access to lab services, annual checkups and flu shots and vaccines.

Dr. Solti Grasz is Board-certified in internal medicine. He earned his medical degree at Universidad Central de Venezuela, Escuela José María Vargas, in Caracas, Venezuela. He completed internships in internal medicine at Hospital Vargas de Caracas in Caracas, Venezuela, and Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach. He also completed a residency in pulmonary medicine at José Ignasio Baldó Hospital in Caracas, and later served as associate program director of the hospital’s pulmonary residency program. He was an assistant professor of medicine at Florida International University’s Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. He has conducted research in the area of pulmonary medicine and his findings have been published in peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. De Santis will see patients at two Miami locations: the Baptist Health Primary Care office at Doral, located at 9915 NW 41 St., and the Baptist Health Primary Care office at Pinecrest, located at 13101 S. Dixie Hwy., Suite 400. He specializes in diagnosing and treating conditions related to the endocrine system, such as diabetes and thyroid disorders, as well as pituitary diseases and adrenal disorders.

Dr. De Santis obtained his medical degree from Universidad Central de Venezuela Escuela de Medicina in Caracas, Venezuela. He completed an internal medicine residency at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine-Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. His post-doctoral training includes two fellowships – one in clinical pharmacology at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., and one in endocrinology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.

Dr. Mills will see patients at the Tavernier office, located at 91550 Overseas Hwy., Suite 205. He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the esophagus, stomach, small and large intestines and biliary system.

Dr. Mills obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Boston College in Chestnut Hill, graduating magna cum laude, and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Society in recognition of his academic achievements. He attended medical school at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He completed residencies in internal medicine and gastroenterology as well as a fellowship in gastroenterology at Washington University School of Medicine, Barnes-Jewish Hospital. He is Board-certified in gastroenterology and internal medicine. He has published peer-reviewed articles on various topics in his specialty, such as renal disease and gastrointestinal tract disorders. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, American College of Physicians and Florida Medical Association.
