Miami Cancer Institute Names Ramon Jimenez, M.D., FACS, Chief of the Division of Melanoma and Soft Tissue Sarcomas

MIAMI, FL – October 9, 2017 – Surgical oncologist Ramon Jimenez, M.D., FACS, has joined the world-class team of specialists at Miami Cancer Institute at Baptist Health South Florida, the region’s premier cancer treatment and research destination. Dr. Jimenez will serve as chief of melanoma and soft tissue sarcoma surgery. Highly experienced in utilizing innovative surgical techniques to treat a wide variety of cancers requiring surgical intervention, he specializes in the surgical treatment of melanoma and soft tissue sarcomas — the latter referring to rare cancers that start in the soft tissues of the body, such as fat and muscle.

In practice for more than 20 years, Dr. Jimenez will collaborate with the Institute’s multidisciplinary teams of cancer care specialists, including pathologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists and patient support specialists, to provide the most effective treatment plan for each patient.

“Treating rare cancers requires rare skill, and Miami Cancer Institute continues to build an interdisciplinary cancer care team composed of specialists who are experts in their fields,” said Michael J. Zinner, M.D., founding CEO and executive medical director of Miami Cancer Institute. “The appointment of Dr. Jimenez at the Institute is evidence of our commitment to providing each patient with the most advanced, effective cancer care.”

Dr. Jimenez, who is Board-certified in general surgery, received his undergraduate degree in biology from Yale University, graduating summa cum laude, and earned his medical degree at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He completed a general surgical residency at Massachusetts General Hospital, followed by a fellowship in surgical oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. His postdoctoral training also included a surgical research fellowship at Harvard Medical School.

Prior to joining Miami Cancer Institute, Dr. Jimenez was director of the Division of Surgical Oncology at Hartford Healthcare Medical Group in Hartford, Conn. An educator as well, he served as clinical assistant professor of surgery at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and has presented abstracts at medical symposiums throughout the U.S. Dr. Jimenez is a Fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and the Society of Surgical Oncology and a member of several professional medical associations.
