The most advanced and personalized cancer and cardiovascular care is only two hours away

Fishermen’s Community Hospital supporters receive up-close and personal insights into Baptist Health’s Centers of ExcellenceMarathon, FL – January 28, 2020 – Senior leaders of Baptist Health’s Miami Cancer Institute and Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute– last week offered supporters of Fishermen’s Community Hospital private tours and insights into why the South Florida community is so fortunate to have the institutes in their backyard.

A group of 27 Fishermen’s supporters were transported by motor coach to Miami for the tours. At Miami Cancer Institute, they learned its roster of physicians is comprised of renowned oncologists and highly sub-specialized cancer experts and surgeons, clinical researchers and genomic scientists – many of whom were recruited from the nation’s top cancer centers. Miami Cancer Institute is the only center in the nation to offer all of the latest radiation therapies available today under one roof, including the first and most experienced proton therapy center from South Florida to South America.

As Florida’s only member of the Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK) Cancer Alliance, Miami Cancer Institute is part of a collaboration that offers patients access to innovative treatments here at home. Heralded nationally as one of the academic-community cancer centers of the future supported by science, technology and education, Miami Cancer Institute combines high quality, community-based cancer care with the best of an academic cancer center.

At Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute, Fishermen’s supporters learned it was established in 1987 by renowned interventional radiologist Barry T. Katzen, M.D., and was one of the first centers in the United States to treat the heart and blood vessels as one entity. This unique approach, coupled with leading-edge techniques and technologies, advanced research and an international focus, resulted in the Institute becoming a leader in cardiovascular care.

Today, Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute is the largest and most comprehensive cardiovascular facility in the region. Patients can experience consistent, exceptional, evidence-based care at Institute locations throughout Baptist Health. The team of multilingual, multidisciplinary specialists have pioneered the development of technology used to treat aneurysms, blockages in veins and arteries, and holes in the heart. They participate in federally approved clinical research studies and offer the most minimally invasive options to treat patients without traditional surgery whenever possible.
