Baptist Health South Florida and Leidos Collaborate to Bring Real-Time Big Data to Healthcare Delivery
Coral Gables, Fla. – June 1, 2017 – Baptist Health South Florida, an innovator in healthcare delivery, today announced a strategic collaboration with Leidos (NYSE: LDOS), a leader in healthcare technology, to revolutionize the delivery of care. Through this collaboration, Baptist Health is piloting the industry’s first real-time, military-grade data integration, mobile monitoring and patient activation suite, which will provide care-givers with important, up-to-the-minute data to assist in providing the right care at the right time.
With this program, Baptist Health is transforming the delivery of care by adding real-time monitoring of the patient’s journey from their home through various sites of care and back to the home, including the diagnosis, treatment and recovery process and using the data to help inform the treatment options and coordinate care. Leidos brings proven technology from its experience in serving military and intelligence communities with sophisticated data, analytics and decision support systems, and decades of expertise in supporting government and commercial health customers to provide the next generation of care coordination systems – careC2 Pathways™.
“This strategic relationship puts us at the leading edge of the convergence of big data and health care,” said Jack Ziffer, Ph.D.,M.D., executive vice president and chief medical officer at Baptist Health. “We are using the full breadth of our medical expertise, data analytics, and real-time insights to ensure that patients’ treatment plans are ideally suited for their needs, so the patient can be confident that the best in medical evidence is applied to their individual care.”
The Leidos careC2 Pathways™ software provides Baptist Health with a single, real-time view of the patient as they move through the steps of treatment and recovery. This allows the Baptist Health team to immediately recognize changes in the patient’s status or clinical condition, or any delays to the prescribed treatment and then quickly adjust the care delivery plan accordingly. Integral to the program is a big-data analytics platform that integrates all prescribed data and makes it available at decision points when needed.
“This collaboration helps us to unlock the value of big-data in healthcare in order to generate information that helps us to provide the best and most efficient treatment for our patients,” said Khurram Nasir, M.P.H., M.D., corporate medical director of the Baptist Health Center for Research.
“The real-time data integration challenges in healthcare are just as important and complex as they are in national security,” added Matt Vaughan, SVP of Health Products & Solutions at Leidos. “Baptist Health South Florida now has access to the advanced technologies and deep systems integration capabilities we originally developed to protect our nation’s security. The health system is leading the way in applying these proven technologies to transform the delivery and accuracy of healthcare.”
Over the next five years, Leidos and Baptist Health will collaborate on more than 30 new clinical pathways to treat the most complex conditions such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, joint replacement and many others.
