Three Physicians Affiliated With Fishermen’s Community Hospital Join Baptist Health Medical Group

Coral Gables, FL – October 23, 2017 — Baptist Health Medical Group, an organization of more than 180 physicians in multiple specialties integrated within Baptist Health South Florida, welcomes to its team three physicians affiliated with Fishermen’s Community Hospital.

Ronald Samess, M.D., family medicine, see patients at 5701 Overseas Hwy., Suite 17. General surgeons Alan Netzman, D.O., and Steven Smith, M.D., also practice in this building, in Suite 8.

Dr. Samess diagnose and treat a wide range of health issues, including simple and complex health conditions, chronic disease management, minor emergencies, urgent care and the coordination of specialty care. They also promote wellness by offering routine checkups, health-risk assessments, immunizations, screening tests and personalized healthy lifestyle counseling.

Dr. Samess is Board certified in family medicine. He received his medical degree from the Free University of Brussels in Belgium, and completed a residency in family medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, where he served as chief resident.

Dr. Smith and Dr. Netzman treat a broad spectrum of conditions and diseases with operative intervention. They manage a patient’s preoperative diagnosis, perform elective and emergency surgery on most body systems and provide comprehensive postoperative care. Both physicians are Board certified in surgery.

Dr. Smith received his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine. He completed a surgical internship at Tulane University School of Medicine, Charity Hospital of New Orleans, and a four-year surgical residency at the same facility and other hospitals affiliated with the medical school.

Dr. Netzman received his doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery in Iowa, and completed two surgical residencies—at Metropolitan Hospital, Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, and at Community Hospital South Broward, Southeastern Medical Center, in North Miami Beach.

Due to Hurricane Irma, Fishermen’s Community Hospital opened a full-service field hospital in order to provide care to the Middle Keys community. The mobile disaster hospital is on the grounds of Fishermen’s and includes a five-bed emergency department, a six-bed-in-patient unit, diagnostic equipment and a laboratory.
