A celebration of community health and fitness was held on the lake at West Kendall Baptist Hospital [1] to mark the 5th anniversary of service to the West Kendall community. West Kendall Baptist Hospital opened in 2011 as Miami-Dade’s first new, non-replacement hospital in more than 35 years.
The hospital has made a commitment through the Healthy West Kendall initiative to be the destination for health, prevention and a variety of fitness programs designed to increase the wellness of area residents. Other highlights of the hospital’s history include:
• Delivery of more than 3,000 babies.
• Serving more than 30,000 patients who have required a hospital stay.
• Treating over 230,000 patients in the Emergency Department.
• Performing more than 13,500 surgeries.
• Launching a family residency program in conjunction with the FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine to meet the growing needs of the community.
• Welcoming more than 630 medical students, through the Graduate Medical Office, for rotation opportunities at West Kendall Baptist Hospital and other Baptist Health entities.
• Collaboration with more than 50 community business partners to create the healthiest community in Florida through the Healthy West Kendall Initiative.
