Before TV channels dedicated strictly to food and the term “celebrity chef” were created, Chef Norman Van Aken [1] was cooking up delectable recipes in his kitchens and perfecting what many referred to as “New World” or “Fusion” cuisine for his blending of Caribbean, Latin, American and Asian flavors. Several restaurants, five cookbooks and countless TV and radio appearances later, he embarks on a new chapter of his culinary career, launching a culinary academy at the Vagabond Hotel in Miami.
Chef Van Aken has is also teaming up with the Miami Dolphins and Baptist Health South Florida to provide light and healthy recipes that can be prepared for tailgating at the stadium or cooking for the family at home. Chef Van Aken stresses the use of fresh ingredients as a way to make healthy cooking taste great!
Over the next few weeks, Chef Van Aken will prepare three delicious dishes right here on the Health, Life & Community blog in anticipation of the Miami Dolphins Family Fit Fest.
Miami Dolphins Family Fit Fest Presented by Baptist Health South Florida will be held on Saturday, April 18, from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Doctors Hospital Training Facility at Nova Southeastern University, 7500 SW 30 Street, in Davie. Admission is free. The event will feature health screenings, interactive fitness activities, play zones, snacks and refreshments, raffles and giveaways.
