Doctors and clinical staff at Baptist Children’s Hospital [1] will once again come together for the 18th Annual Day of Smiles, offering life-changing plastic surgeries for local adolescent patients with facial deformities.
All the procedures will be performed without cost to children whose families are unable to pay for these procedures. If you or someone you know is in need, please visit the Day of Smiles [2] page for more information and to schedule a screening.
Doctors from various specialties, including plastic surgery, oral surgery, and anesthesiology, donate their time and expertise for this cause. Some of the types of facial deformities that can be corrected include cleft palates, cleft lips, scars, tumors, burns, ear deformities, port wine birthmarks, as well as congenital hand deformities
Joel Levin, M.D. [3], a plastic surgeon with Baptist Health South Florida, says he looks forward to this day every year. ”The impact on their lives is wonderful,” says Dr. Levin. “It restores their self-esteem, and that’s what this is all about.”
