Battling Breast Cancer at Miami Cancer Institute (Video)

Miami Cancer Institute [1] has opened its doors on the campus of Baptist Hospital in Kendall. The Institute now gives South Florida, Latin America and the Caribbean access to highly personalized, innovative cancer treatment without the need to travel far from home.

For the breast cancer patient, the opening of the Institute means being able to access all services under one roof. About 246,660 American women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer this year, according to the American Cancer Society [2]. A recent study published in Cancer [3] underscores the benefits of a strong social support system to help fight the disease.

“From prevention and detection to treatment and clinical research, we combine innovation and precision with high-quality, compassionate care,” says Michael J. Zinner, M.D. [4], founding CEO and executive medical director of Miami Cancer Institute.

The Baptist Health South Florida News Team talks to Gladys Giron, M.D. [5], a breast surgeon at Miami Cancer Institute, to find out more about the comprehensive approach being used to detect, diagnose and treat breast cancer.
