Baptist Health South Florida hospitals have once again been recognized by U.S. News and World Report [1] as one of the highest performing hospital systems in the country. Among 74 general hospitals in Miami-Dade, Monroe, Broward and Palm Beach Counties, Baptist Hospital [2] was ranked number one.
The highly anticipated rankings for Best Hospital for Complex Care, now in their 25th year, are designed to help consumers make choices for healthcare based on their particular condition and the proximity of a facility. As in other years, U.S. News used various sources to create the rankings, including Medicare reports on patient safety and mortality rates, as well as data from the American Hospital Association.
The study looked at 5,000 hospitals and graded them for safety, reputation, patient volume, staffing levels and other factors. A methodology change in this year’s report led to the rankings for Best Hospital for Common Care, which rate hospitals based on an in-depth assessment of their success with five specific conditions and procedures-heart bypass, hip replacement and knee replacement — and two long-term illnesses, heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Baptist Health hospitals were recognized as “High Performing” in both complex care and routine care cases as well as in ten different specialties, procedures and conditions including:
– Ear, Nose & Throat.
– Geriatrics.
– Pulmonology.
– Urology.
– Neurology & Neurosurgery.
– Heart Bypass Surgery.
– Knee Replacement Surgery.
– Hip Replacement Surgery.
– Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
– Heart Failure.
“We are proud and honored to again be recognized for the outstanding work of our world-class physicians, nurses and staff members who continuously reach beyond the high standards Baptist Health has in place to provide the best quality care to each patient every day,” said Brian E. Keeley, president and chief executive officer of Baptist Health South Florida. “This annual survey reinforces and validates that those standards we strive hard to achieve have been met and exceeded.”
Baptist Health South Florida hospitals earned more high-performing medals than any other healthcare system in the region. The Baptist Health Neuroscience Center [3], Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute [4] and Miami Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Institute [5] were recognized for various specialties.
“At Baptist Health, we are constantly seeking to improve our practices and provide the highest quality of care for our patients,” said Thinh Tran, M.D., MBA, corporate vice president and chief medical and quality officer. “We share best practices among our facilities and among our staff to ensure that we are doing the best for our patients as a healthcare organization. The U.S. News rankings help patients make informed decisions about their care, and we are proud to be highlighted among the best.”
South Miami Hospital [6] was awarded for excellence in common care for treating Heart Failure patients and Homestead Hospital [7] was recognized for excellence in treating complex Urology cases.
